Dental Implants

In Pompano Beach, FL

When a missing tooth goes untreated, the effects go far beyond appearance. Without a tooth root in place, the surrounding jawbone begins to shrink — a process that can alter your facial structure, shift neighboring teeth, and make future tooth replacement more difficult over time. Dental implants are the only tooth replacement option that addresses this at the root level, restoring both function and long-term oral health. At Smile Design Holistic in Pompano Beach, FL, our restorative dentistry team uses biocompatible implant materials aligned with our whole-health philosophy to replace missing teeth in a way that works with your body — not against it.

Why should I choose dental implants?

Why should I choose dental implants?

Dental implants are the only tooth replacement option that stimulates the jawbone the way a natural tooth root does — preventing the bone loss that begins almost immediately after a tooth is lost. According to the University of Miami Health System, dental implants are becoming the preferred way to replace missing teeth because the bone bonds directly with the titanium post, creating a strong, permanent foundation for an artificial tooth. This integration — called osseointegration — is what gives implants their remarkable stability and longevity, and why they can last a lifetime with proper care. At Smile Design Holistic, we offer single-tooth implants, All-on-4 dental implants, and implant crowns to address a range of tooth loss situations — all with biocompatible materials suited to a whole-health approach.

The Benefits of Dental Implants

Natural Feel and Function

Dental implants function like natural tooth roots — anchoring directly into the jawbone and allowing you to bite, chew, and speak with full confidence. Unlike dentures that may shift or require adhesives, implants stay firmly in place during everyday activities. Because they’re integrated into the bone, they can also be cleaned just like your natural teeth — no special soaking or removal required.

Aesthetically Pleasing

Each implant restoration — whether a single crown, bridge, or full-arch solution — is custom-designed to match your surrounding teeth in shade, shape, and size. Porcelain and zirconia crown options are available for patients who prefer completely metal-free restorations in line with our biocompatible philosophy. The result blends so naturally with the rest of your smile that most people can’t tell the difference.

Preserves Oral Health

Biocompatible titanium implants are specifically chosen because they bond naturally with the surrounding bone through osseointegration — stimulating the jaw the way a natural tooth root would. This prevents the bone shrinkage that occurs after tooth loss, preserving your facial structure and protecting the health of neighboring teeth. Some patients who have experienced significant bone loss may require a bone graft prior to implant placement to rebuild adequate bone volume. We evaluate each patient individually during the implant preparation process.

The Implant Treatment Process

Placement

Your implant journey starts with a thorough evaluation where Dr. Baghaei reviews your oral health, bone density, and overall medical history. A personalized treatment plan is developed — including whether any preparatory steps like bone grafting are needed. Once you’re cleared, the implant procedure itself takes place under local anesthesia, often with sedation options available for added comfort. The titanium post is gently placed into the jawbone where the missing tooth once sat, and the area is sutured so healing can begin.

Healing & Osseointegration

After placement, osseointegration begins — the biological process by which the titanium post fuses with the surrounding jawbone. Gum tissue typically settles within one to two weeks, while full bone integration takes three to six months depending on the patient. During this period, we monitor progress through follow-up visits and keep healing on track. A temporary restoration is often placed so you never have to go without a tooth during recovery.

Applying the Restoration

Once osseointegration is confirmed, a custom-crafted crown — matched precisely to your surrounding teeth in shape, shade, and size — is connected to the implant via a small abutment post. After final adjustments and polishing, your new tooth is complete. It looks natural, feels solid, and functions exactly like the tooth it replaces. We recommend a post-placement follow-up at six weeks and annually thereafter to ensure the implant, crown, and surrounding gum tissue all remain healthy.

Whole-Health Approach to Implants

At Smile Design Holistic, we believe oral health and whole-body health are inseparable — and dental implants are a perfect example of that connection. Tooth loss doesn’t just affect your smile; it affects your nutrition, your bone structure, and your confidence. We approach every implant case with that bigger picture in mind. Before placement, we evaluate your systemic health, gum health, and bone quality together — not in isolation.

When appropriate, we offer biocompatible and metal-free implant options, including zirconia implant solutions, for patients who prefer to avoid titanium or have sensitivity concerns. We also use PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) protocols where indicated to support faster, more natural healing after implant placement — a technique that uses your body’s own growth factors to accelerate recovery. Every treatment plan at Smile Design Holistic is built around your individual needs, not a one-size-fits-all protocol. Learn more about our whole-health approach to dentistry.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Check out these frequently asked questions, or call us to speak with our team.

What is a dental implant and how does it work?

A dental implant is a small titanium post that is surgically placed into the jawbone to replace a missing tooth root. Once in place, the bone gradually fuses with the titanium through a process called osseointegration, creating a stable foundation. A custom crown, bridge, or other restoration is then attached on top. The result is a replacement tooth that looks, feels, and functions like a natural tooth — without relying on adjacent teeth or removable appliances.

Am I a good candidate for dental implants?

Most healthy adults with one or more missing teeth may be candidates for dental implants. Good candidates generally have adequate jawbone density to support the implant, healthy gums, and no active oral infections. Patients with certain medical conditions — such as uncontrolled diabetes or those who smoke — may require additional evaluation, as these factors can affect healing. If bone volume has been lost after tooth extraction, a bone graft may be recommended before implant placement. Dr. Baghaei evaluates each patient individually during a free consultation.

How long do dental implants last?

Dental implants are designed to last a lifetime with proper care. The titanium post itself integrates permanently with the jawbone and rarely needs replacement. The implant crown may eventually show normal wear and require replacement after 15 to 20 years, depending on your habits and oral hygiene. Regular brushing, flossing, and professional cleanings are the most important factors in long-term implant success.

Do dental implants stop bone loss?

Yes. Dental implants are the only tooth replacement option that actively prevents jawbone loss. When a tooth is missing, the surrounding bone gradually shrinks because it no longer receives stimulation from a root. The titanium implant post acts as a new root, transmitting chewing forces into the bone and signaling it to maintain its density and volume. This protects your facial structure, prevents neighboring teeth from shifting, and preserves your jaw for the long term.

Can a dental implant become infected?

While uncommon, an infection called peri-implantitis can develop if bacteria accumulate around the implant. This can cause gum inflammation and, if left untreated, bone loss around the implant. The best prevention is excellent oral hygiene — brushing twice daily, flossing, and attending regular professional cleanings. Following all post-surgical care instructions and attending scheduled follow-ups significantly reduces this risk. If you notice any unusual soreness, swelling, or discharge around an implant, contact our office promptly.

Can I get an implant in one day?

In select cases, same-day or immediate implant placement may be possible — particularly for patients with adequate bone density and healthy gums. However, for most patients, the implant process takes several months from placement to final restoration to allow proper osseointegration. During your consultation, Dr. Baghaei will review your bone density, oral health, and goals to determine the most appropriate timeline for your specific situation.
